Sometimes when you use laser printers, you may see prompt messages like “No Toner Cartridge” or “Cartridge Cannot Be Detected” which, if the toner is not empty, is caused by the following reasons:
1. Printer Firmware Update
When the latest firmware is published, a notification to update the firmware will appear on your printer if it is connected to the Internet. The printer may show "Non-HP Chip" on the screen if the update is completed, indicating that the compatible cartridge being used isn't able to function properly. In this case, downgrading the printer firmware will solve the issue. These are the steps (take HP Color LaserJet Pro M454nw printer as the example):
2. Incorrect Installation of the Cartridge
A printer cannot detect a toner cartridge that is not installed correctly. Follow the steps below to operate:
1. Confirm the cartridge model first;
2. Open the access door and take out the old cartridge;
3. Clean the metal contacts in the printer;
4. Put the new cartridge into the printer and close the access door.
3. Toner Sensor Problem
Another reason why the cartridge could not be recognized is a toner sensor problem. Remove the cartridge and reset the toner sensor to resolve the issue.
Hope this post will assist you in fixing the "Cartridge Cannot Be Detected" problem. Leave us a message if you have any questions. We'll get back to you right away.
